Good luck to my other tennis faves in Eastbourne/s’Hertogenbosch !!

This week there are combined ATP/WTA events in Eastbourne (England) and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands). Play in the main draws of both tournaments began yesterday(Sunday)

My faves competing in Eastbourne today are:-  Gilles Simon(France), he is making his return to the Tour after a period sidelined with a knee injury. He opens play today against Russia’s Evgeny Korolev,on Centre Court. He’s seeded 2 this week. Allez Gilles!!!!!!!!!

Top seed in the mens field is clay court specialist Nicolas Almagro.

In the womens draw in Eastbourne,Kim Clijsters makes a return to tennis after a foot injury. She is seeded 5th and her first opponent is scheduled to be fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.. a very tough assignment,Yanina’s best surface is….grass. She will begin her campaign tomorrow.

Britain’s Elena Baltacha will begin against Birmingham winner Na Li of China(seeded 7).

On to s’Hertogenbosch. The mens event is headed by Croatian Ivan Ljubicic. 2nd seed is Marcos Baghdatis from Cyprus.

Good luck to Tommy Robredo of Spain, another player making a comeback from injury, and a fave of mine, seeded 3 in s’Hertogenbosch. He takes on Simon Gruel later in the week in the 2nd round. Ludicrously for a 32 man draw, the top 4 seeds have byes.

In the WTA event there, top seed is Justine Henin of Belgium. 2nd seeded Dinara Safina was beaten yesterday by Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova. Maria Kirilenko of Russia is seeded 3rd(she begins her tournament against Ioana Raluca Olaru of Romania. Ana Ivanovic, unseeded takes on Swede Sofia Arvidsson in her opener.

Enjoy the grass, stay upright and injury free, and hopefully the sun will shine!!! Good luck !!

Round up of this weeks tournaments(7-13 June)

(Sam Querrey after winning at Queens)

A few more quandries in the mix for forthcoming Wimbledon tournament!!

At Queens today Sam Querrey defeated Mardy Fish in an all American final,in straight sets!! Sam is having quite a stellar year on Tour,he has 3 titles on 3 different surfaces already Memphis(U.S. indoor hardcourts),Belgrade on European red clay, and now a premier title on the grass in London!!!

And…Lleyton Hewitt defeated Roger Federer on Halle’s grass,in Germany. A superb result for Lleyton..snapping a 15 match losing streak against Federer!!!  And yet…was it so surprising??? Lleyton has a 7-0 winning record in grass court finals!!

On the womens side…defeat for Maria Sharapova in Birmingham..Na Li won in straight sets.
